When I play DVDs on my computer they skip and sometimes studder but keep playing. I just built this computer mostly new except for the DVD-ROM drive and a few other minor components. What could be causing this?

WinXP Pro

GeForce 6800GT
SB Audigy

If your computer's doing too much in the background it could cause this. An antivirus prgram performing a scan would be a relitavely likely culprit if this is the case.

yes ,this seems like quite a rare problem and is probably a bad DVD -Rom drive,it is mounted level within the computer--check its positioning and mounting screws, beware with the screws are not too long, this would cause an intrusion into the drive itself

a few months ago i bought a new laptop and that had a similar problem playing DVDs with the preloaded Intervideo player. I installed PowerDVD and it was fine with that
