DVD-RWs reading as blank on my computer

August 20, 2014 at 15:24:26
Specs: Macintosh
I copied my old home videos from VHS to DVD recently, but when I inserted the DVDs (dvd-rw) into my computer they read as blank. I tried on two separate macbooks and also a toshiba laptop. Every time they showed up as blank (I have four of the DVDs). When I put them back in the DVD recorder/player I have, all the videos showed up on the disc. Does anyone know what is going on?? They are Memorex DVD-RWs

yes, on the original recorder you used to make the discs. Next time I would suggest that you just burn the videos to a DVDR disc...the re-writeable ones are not too accurate at the best of times.

And as these videos may be "valuable" to you and the family, suggest you make duplicates of the disks. Label suitably and store safely.

I would also suggest using DVD-R's instead of RW's. The re-writable discs are not as stable as write once discs. They have a much higher failure rate.

That's the plan! The copies I made were going to be the originals and now I am making duplicates on my computer (hence why I needed the movies to read on my mac). Thank you!
