DVD-RW won't autoplay

Gateway 710X

Specs: Windows XP Home, 3.2Ghz/1G RAM

I have tried to make my dvd drive to "autoplay" when in insert a disk. I set the properties to autoplay when a disk is inserted and play through Windows Media Player. The only way I can get my pc to recognize the drive is to remove it from the system through Device Manager and then the only thing that happens is that the files on the dvd/cd will be shown. When I turn the pc off and then restart, this does not even happen. I have to remove the drive again. It still won't recognize the disk to be autoplayed with Media Player.

Autoplay Repair Wizard

Download & try the above - it will scan your computer devices to find defective AutoPlay settings, and attempts to fix those it finds.

P.S. WGA Validation check is required.

Right click on your dvd drive in my computer and properties, auto play options and hit restore defaults/apply ok.

Also check file association in tools folder options.

Not all CDs will start automatically when inserted. They must be a certain type of disk or contain a file called autorun.inf.
Autorun.inf files will only run if you have Administrator rights or are logged in as an Administrator. If you are logged in as a Guest or a User with Limited Access, Autoplay is not available to you.
Some programs and configurations may disable Autoplay.

I have the administrator access. The cd is a music cd and works on a couple other machines. I has me baffled!

Open Media player, select tools - options - file types then click the individual files you want associated with Media Player of choose the 'Select ALL' option.

That had been done. I even reloaded Media Player.

I'm guessing it wouldn't autoplay any dvd?

Then if you can change out the dvd drive with another brand if autoplay is that important.

Won't play a dvd or cd. I have 2 drives installed and neither one will autoplay.

I removed my "lesser used" drive (I had 2 installed) and now the one drive works just fine. Go figure!!!

Thanks!

Merry Christmas
