Solved DVDRW recognized as CDROM

Specs: Windows 7, Intel core2 duo E8500 4GB DDR2 800(PC2 6400)
Windows 7 I can no longer burn data DVDS. yesterday I could in WMP. Today win & & WMP read my optiarc DVD RW AD-7240s as a CDROM

Are you sure the drive was recognized as a DVDRW before?

Try booting to a bootable DVD to see if you have a hardware or software issue. If you get a disk to boot you can just abort the installation.

If that turns out to be the case then try performing a system restore to yesterday, if things worked right then. See the link below to learn how.

Hi, thanks for the response. I can boot from a DVD, and it turns out that I can burn using Nero. I tried the system restore, and it didn't change anything. Essentially, I think my Windows Media Player is corrupted, because the drive is fine otherwise. I will delete & reinstall or else download iTunes. Thanks again for your response, it jogged my mind into trying Nero, which I usually don't use.
