Hi - ive got a real problem. i recently got a Samsung DVDRW and i need help. I installed it into the computer. It is linked on a ide cable with my Samsung dvd/cdrw combo. is that fine???
Ok - here is my problem. When i burn a dvdrw at 2x it writes fine. But when i try to write a dvd r in Nero, the light starts flickering and flickers for a while then it just STOPS!!!! i have wasted so 10 dvd r's so far. I have tried Alcohol and the same happens there! Plz help me :) Here is a log file from Alcohol.

Any help would be BRILLIANT - im just stumped right now :(. I have SERVICE PACK 2 and all the other similar complaints like these had SP2 on. Maybe a SP2 related prob?
also must i get firmware? and can sum1 tell me if its fine to have both my devices on the same ide cable :)

There should be no problem with two opticals on the same IDE channel. However, 256MB of ram is pretty low. It could well be a problem with the brand of media you are using since you have no problem with DVDRWs. Have you tried using other brands of DVDs?
Also, check with Samsung to see if there is a firmware update available:

shouldnt that be 2000Mhz? is it a sempron?
what fsb/ ram are you using?

the TS-H552U writes at 8 speed (U or B version?) what is the spec of the dvdr/w you ae trying to use? brand etc?

GerryC - with the firmware i havent even tried to dl it yet. i will do so and see if there is a difference :) I tried and burnt with BenQ and Verbatim - both had exact same problem in Alcohol and Nero :( I really think it might be SP2 related cauz my SP2 did give my sytem other problems :(

My Cpu is AMD Athlon 2800+ 64 Bit. Its core speed is 1.8 Ghz ,thats right and it says so in system properties :)
With the not enough memory error. What can i do??? Do i have to buy more RAM??? My friend writes dvd's with 256 MB Ram :(
The dvdr's i was tryin to burn were 8x.
I dont understand how it writes dvdrw so well but screws up on DVDR ! It has really baffled me.
