DVDR/RW not working

Specs: Windows XP
ok i have a problem that is verry annoying to me..
i have a LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160P6S
and it seems i cannot write files to the disk and its not just data files its any file.. it opos up an error saying "windows encountered an error while trying to coppy this file what do you want windows to do?" I can read any CD i put into the drive i can read dvd's audio CD's and burnt data CD's im trying to put a RAR file on a Maxell DVD+R 4.7GB 16X cd and i keep gettin that error message with any file yet when i put in a 700 mb CD non DVD CDrom it allows me to write files i have all the updated files for my motherboard and my CDrom drive what should i do ive tried looking this problem up but nothin helps me.. ive tried to go to the device management for the DMA transfer mode and its under ultra DMA 6 mode yet it reads that transfer rate not availible under my system information i have no idea what to do anyone have an anwser for me thx ahead of time

Well you could try to take it back to the Store where you bought it. It might be defected product.

no no no lol its way beond waranty its never done this b4 i used to be able to burn files to dvds on this comp with no problem
