On this Toshiba satellite the dvd-rom will not read dvd's when I put them in. The cd tray light will blink in a constant interval with no sound of spin and then the light stays solidly on. Viewing the drive from windows explorer only shows a blank drive, as if I put a blank cd inside.

The DvD-rom is TEAC DW-224E-B. I've been scouring google for the past few hours and I've found one vague reference to this same problem but had no clear solution or anything technical. It only alluded to the drive being unfixable. The funny thing is that it read the last Audio cd I put in, but beyond that it won't register DvD's. It'll be a damn shame to have to send this back for a replacement.

Thanks!

There are two lasers inside your drive. The DVD laser may be dirty or burned out. Did the drive ever read DVDs? If so, try one of the exact disks that it has read before. If not, then maybe the region has never been set.

It did read DvD's and trying to replay the same DvD's it did played fails. Any instructions on cleaning the laser to rule that out?

Thanks a ton guys, I should have come here first, would have saved me hours.

i have a similar problem: i had an old e-machines comp. then built myself a new one. i took the dvd drive out of my old computer, where it read DVDs, but ever since i put it in my new computer, it wont read DVDs, but will read CDs.

It is the pri master. Slave is a CD-rw i installed into my old computer. Dvd drive worked with that before
