I recently took an older PC out of mothballs. The DVD-ROM (Sony DRU-800A) I have in it was relatively new when I packed it up (about 3 years ago). It recognizes CD's but does not read DVD's. It makes a lurching sound like you might hear when you put a DVD into a CD-ROM. The weird thing is that this drive will burn a DVD-R. I had some old files on the computer and it took the DVD-R, and let me burn it with Nero. But when I put a 'real' DVD in to encode it, nothing.I find it odd that it will burn a DVD, but not recognize a DVD. I am running Windows XP (SP1). The firmware is KY06. Any suggestions?
