DVD-ROM Please excuse my ignorance

Hi Please excuse my ignorance but is there such a thing as a dvd-rom that isn't also a cdrw? I have a Sony DVD-ROM drive in a desktop computer and it reads cds and dvds fine and even plays dvd movies fine but it doesn't say on the drive that it is a cd writer and I can't get it to write cds despite loading nero cd writing software but I've never come across a dvd reader that didn't also write cds... can anybody educate this clutz?... ie me? Cheers

DVD-ROM = Digital Video Disc-Read Only Memory
Anything with ROM in the title is Read Only.

BTW your nero cd writing software is pretty much useless .. unless you replace the DVD-ROM drive with a writeable DVD drive. If I were you I would opt for both DVD+/- Double layer drive.

Hi... thanks for all the replies... I understand that ROM is read only but I thought they were all combo drives that read dvds and write cds... bit ignorant there...
