Comment: My computer is not recognising my DVD-ROM (MATs---A 8584A). This fault is not restricted to Windows: it is occuring when I boot up in my Linux partition as well. The DVD-ROM seems to have power and is appearing in my BIOS. However, it is not appearing in my Windows Device Manager (just gives generic CDROM as present). I've checked the wiring and it all seems to be secure and connected properly. I have to admit, I did attempt to install a new hard-drive on my machine, which failed. When I removed the hard-drive this fault appeared. I did re-set my BIOS. What I would like to know is how I go about locating exactly what the problem is? Is it a phsyical fault with the IDE cable or the DVD-ROM? Is it a BIOS setting? Is it a software problem? TIA... Ricardo

Reply: (edit)Hi Sean, Sorry I didn't mention it, but the DVD-ROM was working previously. I have already performed an auto-detect under BIOS and it successfully matches the DVD-ROM. Ric

Reply: (edit)Just for the heck of it, go into device manager, remove the ROM driver and reboot. See if windows will reinstall correct drivers.Or, if the device came with its own driver, reintsall it.

Reply: (edit)By the way, when you said you attemted to install another hard drive, was this in addition to an exsisting hard drive? If so did this cause you to change any of the settings on your DVD ROM?

Reply: (edit)Hi Randyl, When I attempted to install the new hard-drive I don't believe I changed any of the settings. I wouldn't even know how to change the jumper settings. I'll try and re-install the drivers when I get back home today and let you know how I got on.
