I currently am having problems with my dvdrom(HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8161B) I am pretty sure its an LG make. My Computer notices this drive but say sits disabled when I try to enable it windows tells me it can not enable it. N e Ideas i tried to find drivers and had no luck went to LG's website and cant find my model.

Go into your Bios (usually by holding down Delete when you boot) and in the first selection you can hit enter and get the exact brand of your DVD ROM.

Next you need to look around to make sure the DVD/CD Rom is enabled. If it is... then shut your computer off and open it up. If it's your only CD Drive... make sure it's plugged in correctly to the mobo... and make sure you're using the Master Plug instead of the Slave Plug on the wire that goes from the Mobo to the Rom Drive...

Let us know how it turns out.

PS: If you don't have your Mobo manual go to the manufacturers site... they should have something you can look at and print out in the way of a manual.

Both were working perfectly before its very very strange. I dont think its is anything with the connections. Im going to reinsatll windows xp and maybe that will work out. I will reply soon
