DVD-Rom firmware

My DVD-Rom seems unable to read all of my Need for Speed Most Wanted DVD. Apparently the disc has copy protection which can cause some problems. The game manual recommends updating the firmware for the drive. Is this likely to fix the problem? Only want to update if I really have to.

What part of that suggestion do you not understand?

Firmware updates are recommended if you are having problems. Otherwise, there is no need.

Well I'm going to try it.

I've heard it can be quite a risky task as you need to make a reboot disc and any mistake could damage the rom drive.
