Specs: Windows 7
I have a HL-DT-ST GH50N ATA DVD+RW that works when you insert a CD or DVD but it will not show up under "My Computer". I am running Windows 7 Professional.

If I go to "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Disk Management" the DVD drive DOES show up as "Drive D:"

Try installing or reinstalling the hardware driver from the manufacture's site.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

open up "computer" hit the alt key, a hidden menu will appear, click on tools, view, now un-check hide empty drives in computer folder.

So the drive shows in disk management and it doesn't have a exclamation point on it in the device manager, so it's not be upper/lower filter issue. But it may be worth a try to remove them.

Go to your disk management and change the drive letter to see if explore picks it up. Also, what DVD burning software do you have installed? Anyway you may want to uninstall what ever dvd burning software that you may have.
