DVD+R vs DVD-R, please help!!

Could someone please tell me the difference between DVD-R discs and DVD+R discs, i have a DVD+R drive I BELIEVE, and i'm trying to copy on a DVD-R disc, and it's not working, now i haven't copied DVD's in my life, so i really need help

please someone help me, i just got this DVD Burner, it'a an NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A Drive

it's something to do with the format of the disk...
they are two different standards... and for some reason they don't work together...

not sure exactly but it would only make sense that you use a dvd- disk with a dvd- drive... and so on....

Using the wrong type of DVD is like trying to use a dvd disc in a cdrw drive - the laser is not capable of writing to that particular disc format.
