When I put a CD-RW in to record Data, it says there is no disk in unit, I can play a DVD Movie in it Recorded or Orig Movie, but I put a previous CD-RW in that I have recorded data on and it will not read it and there is data on it so it will not record or read cd-rw. I will read and will write to a CD-R that I have written with Nero fine. Have Nero 5.5, also checked in properties and it is checked to Record on tab, really need it bad for this project I am doing, can anybody suggest anything?
So why can't I read and write to a CD-RW?

No program came with my dvd/cd/rw drive, I purchased Nero on the side. When installing Nero do I need to install Easy cd reader????

This all worked two weeks ago, don't understand why it will not work now, drive is working. Is there some burning rights needed here, my nero is 5.5 version, but tried the 7 and got the same answer. This is a copy of log file of error hope somebody understands this?

It does not see CD-RW disks, I am using same disks I always use and worked 2 weeks ago.

I posted to this because its a different situation now see post .....http://www.computing.net/hardware/wwwboard/forum/42004.html
Hope you can help.

Have you tried cleaning the laser lens with a cleaning CD?
Lowering the writing speed to 16x speed.Have you tried a free software burning program ,not nero?
http://www.cdburnerxp.se/

I did clean the lense, lowered speed, I will try the other burning program right now and post back if I had success or failure.
Right now it is working fine, but had to uninstall nero, reinstall the drive (but this is the 4th time this has happened to me) so I think its Nero? ver 5.5, but I refuse to buy the new one since I have bought 3 versions and the second one got smashed in my old cd drive and they would not replace it unless I upgraded it to 7, that was 6. something, do I went back to my old 5.5, anyway will try the free one.

I downloaded that program, pretty nice but could not figure out how to burn a file to a cd-r that was firmware for my home DVD to enable it to burn my movies without the protected content, so I downloaded Nero's 7 for a 30 day trial, then I will uninstall it and install the cdburner XP program I am sure it does it I just wanted to get it done and more familiar with Nero, thanks for all your help and the tip on the cd burning program, I guess the 5.5 version has been a lot of trouble with xp sp2. The way it was acting I also thought my burner was going bad even though its only 3 months old, just goes to show you that Software is just as important as hardware.
