DVD/CD-ROM drivers

Specs: Windows XP
I have a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N. I can't get it to write to cd. I was told to download a driver but I can't find a free one. Can anyone advise me as to where I can download a free driver?

I don't think you need a driver. Xp automatically loads the drivers.

Check it out under device manager. You can uninstall the driver from there, reboot, & it should reinstall the driver.

You could try a Firmware upgrade if you can find one. But I suspect the drive has had it.

As was said, you don't need to install a driver, it's included in XP. Which burning program are you using?

XP has a very basic CD burning program built into it, but it can't burn DVDs .
Search XP's Help and Support for: burn a cd
for more info.

You have to have a third party burning program installed otherwise.

Your drive model is an LG drive model. If you bought and installed the drive yourself, or if someone installed it for you after you got the computer, it probably came with a CD that has a free version of Nero burning software on it that you can install. That CD often has Power DVD on it as well that you can install so you can then play encoded DVDs such as movies.

Look in your All Programs list to see if there is a third party burning program listed.

You can get plenty of free software at FileHippo. I recommend DeepBurner & CDBurnerXP. There's no reason why you can't have both. And there are plenty of others to choose from:
