DVD zone changes coded in BIOS!!??

I have a Compaq Presario 1800 laptop. My DVD drive has "firmware" that only allows five zone changes (USA, Europe, etc). That's a big help.
I'm afraid that this is coded in the BIOS. Is there anything I can do about this?

I'ts not coded in BIOS, it's coded in the firmware of the actual drive. Don't know what can be done, just wanted to get you a little more on track in your research. weets

As defined by the DVD standard, there're two possible places where it gets coded.
Early DVD drives coded the region change in the DVD decoder app.
Modern DVD drives count region changes and store it in NVRAM on the drive itself.
Some sites offer "modified" SW or FW but strictly speaking, that's not exactly legal ;-/
