I think there is a problem with my DVD writer. I
use PowerISO to burn Discs. When i insert
blank DVDs it does not detect it and when i try
to burn into it, it shows "Media Detect Failed".
The thing is it only occurs for blank DVD-Rs
but DVD-RWs have no problem. It also erases
them fine. This problem just started recently
and i can't in anyway find out what's wrong.
Please help.

No none of these work. PowerISO is one of the best i have used
and the weird thing is that my DVD drive works perfectly fine with
other written DVDs and also writes perfectly to DVD-RW discs.
The problem is only when i use DVD-Rs, no matter what quality
it is. This problem just started recently.

Try cleaning the laser lense. You can buy kits or disassemble and clean with a alcohol dampened Q-tip.

But if it was the problem of the lens then the same problem would've occurred for all media. And i have heard that cleaning of the lens can be harmful. Is that true?

I don't know what harm can come from it. As far as different media goes, there are TWO lasers. One for CD media and one for DVD media. The intensity of the laser varies with the task. Burning requires more intensity than reading. CD, CDR & CDRW require different intensities as does DVD, DVDR & DVD RW. Then there is DL (Dual Layer disks).

Desktop burners are disposable hardware, IMO. You can buy a new one for under $30 shipped.
