Hi all,
this problem has been doing me nut in for a while now and getting expensive with all the wasted media.

Ive been "backing up" my dvd collection, with no problems for ages using xcopy platinum and dvd43 to decript the protected ones. Everything always worked brilliantly.

But recently the program has been reading the disks fine but when i come to the burning onto a blank disc. It either

1. starts to burn and then goes into finalizing mode for a couple of mins and returns a messed up disc structure looks like its only burned about a inch or so onto the disc.

or

2. Burns to 100 percent and then pops up a message error when writing to disc. The disc looks burned fully but they structure is all messed up doesnt play properly and freezes in my dvd player.

Im totally stuck i though it was a faulty writer but it wrote a full dvd in nero with data files no problems. and it plays dvds fine

I also tried dvd shrink etc.. but it crashes the computer when reading the disk.
But it plays dvd ok with media player. I dont think this is a software issue as i havnt changed any of the sftware since it was working fine. The dvd writed is a sony 16x dual layer +and- format and im using datawrite titanium 8x dvd-r format media.

Ps i know my systems overclocked pci at about 37 mhz which can cause probs, but it allways worked ok before and the problem still exists when he pci bus is dropped back to 33 mhz.

PS ive checked my amps on the 12v rail on my psu and they are about 30 amps ive seen this can cause some probs if dvd writers are underpowered with nasty psus but i dont think this is the case

any help appreciated im well stuck

hi
just for your info
X copy platinum will not rip Sony ARccOS protection and Settec ALPHA-DVD protection.
try 'dvddecrypter' for backing

Also when OCing the problem can be gradual corruption of data on the HD. This can take time to build up. You may want to go back to stock settings, remove the problem program, run scandisk and defrag, reinstall the program and try it at stock settings before OCing again.

Just for anyone looking at this thread.

My problem was finally sorted by flashing my firmware on the dvd writer to the latest version. For some unknow reason it just stopped working properly. I downloaded the latest version and now it flys, even burns faster than it ever did before.
