I see you only have 32 megs of onboard video RAM. I would say that's the problem. You have an AGP slot on your mobo, so I would suggest you buy a decent video card. I'm sure someone will recommend one for ya. Good Luck.

I had an old HP machine with a 32 meg video card and DVDs wouldn't even play with any software. I upgraded it to a 64 meg AGP card and it worked fine. With the price of AGP cards today, I would shoot straight for a 128 meg card. IMHO.....

No, the video card is not the problem. I have an old compaq with a 4mb card that will play DVDs.

My guess is that DMA on your dvd drive somehow got disabled.
Go to Device Manager, check your IDE/ATAPI controllers, right click on the channel your DVD drive is on, and select properties. From here you'll be able to determine the transfer mode and enable DMA if necessary.

If non of the above works, purchase an ATI video card with mpeg2 video acceleration.

'Only' 32 Mb of VRAM (even 'shared') is not the problem - it's a video, not a high end game - ditto for blaming the monitor 'driver' (anecdotes notwithstanding)

my moniter is set right. I tried to change secondary IDE/ATAPI controller to DMA allowed, and my pc would jam on start up. I returned to original settings ie; IDe at P10 only and pc starts ok. but when I tried to change to DMA allowed it crashes again.
