Comment: I recently installed a DVD writer and its been working fine. Its the only CD/DVD device attached to the PC. Recently whenever I try and read from any disc (DVD or CD) the system just hangs and task manager says the application is "not responding" (happens with MY COMPUTER, WINDOWS EXPLORER and WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER) . Getting similar problems when I try and write to a disc. it was running as the master device on secondary ide. I have since tried it as slave on primary ide but it still the same. The device is recognised by the pc and shows in in BIOS. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the DVDRW and also both IDE controllers with no luck. I also tried it in my sisters computer but it had the same problems. When I insert any disc the green light flashes constantly as if it is looking for something. Do you think the DVDRW drive is faulty??

Reply: (edit)Before you give up on the drive check the cable to be sure it is fully inserted and take a look here. http://aspi.radified.com/
