since i installed a new 160 gig hd my 2 dvd roms, 1 a dvd burner the other read only does not allow me to play dvds but works ok with everything else it will play cds, music div x and vcd they worked fine before i upgraded to a new hd, the software program i use is wmplayer and power dvd5 they both worked fine also before upgrade of hd.
the error message i get from wmplayer is (the speciefied module could not be found)
from power dvd5 i get(error code 80040216)
i should also mention that i downloaded a ripping program called dvd fab express before problem too , i have checked region codes and they are all set correct and drivers ok, it seems that something has blocked the dvds from playing dvds only and why both of them any help would be a god send. henry

I had a similar problem recently after installing DVD Fab. however, my problem was with ripping (using any program) - do not watch DVD video on that PC. The problem finally went away after trying several things - not sure what fixed it. Try installing the most recent version of DVD Fab Decrypter, that's my best guess of what may have fixed it.

forgive me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you are using Windows Media Player to play your DVDs when you should actually be using the Power DVD application. :)

I'm assuming that the new HD replaced the old one, with a re-install of software, and that the DVD movies have not played since then.

In which case I would suspect a Codec problem.

I can't quote the best codec pack to install, but go to Videohelp.com and browse around there; I have always solved my problems with video matters by going there, and come away a lot more informed.

Did your DMA option get set to PIO mode? That can inhibit performance.
