Symptoms: When I put in a game or a DVD to play, the computer does not auto play. I will then go to MY COMPUTER and double click my DVD drive (D drive). The light on the DVD drive goes on and stays on, the red light on my tower goes on and stays on (this tells me that the computer is doing something) but nothing happens. Both these lights just stay on. I will then go back to MY COMPUTER and the D drive is missing, it will show A (floppy) and E (rewriteable CD drive) but the D drive is gone. I hit the eject button on the drive and nothing happens. Only when I reboot can I then remove the disk. Any help anybody has would be appreciated, thanks

From your description, I would say that the DVD drive has died. But try reseating the cables.
