Yes like the title says, I have a problem with my dvd rom drive.
MY computer was built by me, and everything else is running normal. My Lite-on CD burner plays games and everything with out a problem. When i insert a game or just about any cd into my dvd rom drive it freeze my whole computer. I can't move the mouse or anything, i have to reboot to get it back to normal. I thought it might have just been that dvd rom drive but i swapped it out with lite-on dvd drive and the same thing happened......Oh and by the way the dvd drive i have now is a sony. This problem is a little aggrivating and i want it fixed so bad. there has to be some kind of hardware conflict or something,
Please help me... it would be very much appreciated.

What we need to know is how did you configure the hardware?

What cable and which connector on the cable did you set the dvd rom to ?

Which pins did you set the jumper to on the dvd rom ?

Is the DMA mode enabled ?

What is the model number and brand of your board ? etc

Uninstall the drive from the device manager, reboot and let windows pick it up again. I also recommend taking a look @ the transfer mode if it is currently on PIO set it to DMA or vice versa reboot and see if that helps.

i just went through the same thing and here's what i did to fix it

my hard drives are sata and i use the on-board sata connections, so that frees up both ide channels..here's my configuration when it was happening to me:

IDE1 primary master cd-rw
IDE2 primary master dvd burner

i thought it was one of my hard drives, so i took out 1 hard drive and it was still freezing..plugged that hard drive back in and disconnected the dvd burner = no more lock ups/freezes

i was in deep thought and tried the dvd burner on IDE1 as a slave to my cd burner = problem fixed...no lock ups or freezes...i suspect that my IDE2 went bad. no big deal for me, since i dont need it

Abit NF7-s 2500+ @ 3200+

I have a question. If i installed that lite on dvd player and it still had the sony dvd driver installed....would it still cause the freeze that way....or should i try the lite-on dvd drive with its own driver...cuz i remembered i forgot to unistall the sony dvd drver.....and when i went to device manager the sony driver was still installed.....

Shortman !!

I do understand your problem I realy do.

I have just had same problem with a rig I built a month ago.

It was a liteon/jvc generic dvd rom and was freezing the comp and any application that yu try. Watching dvd's it froze at no given point, etc.

I replaced the unit with a new drive and it works 100% OK , But cop this !!!

I used the old one ( that was freezing ) and placed the thing into my test rig that runs the asus a7v600 x board and guess what !! It works without a fault.

But when connected to the a7n8x-e Delux the thing froze. Now I have dvd rom which I cant return for warranty cos the thing works.

So I do understand your aggrivation.

I wish I could point yu in a worth wile direction, but you seem to have done the right things in trying to solve your problem.

Just for the heck of it check your cmoss clock.

has it re set ??? or is it still keeping normal time ?? Is the bios reseting to default or is it ok ??

As I had that issue on the a7n8x-e board also. Battery was dead after only about a month and the board was manufactured only about 2 months ago if memory serves.

And that explained some other issues which were associated with the lockup.

Its a wild stab in the dark but !!!

Wel I have finaly solved my problem, I dont know about the rest of the ppl on this post.

But !! everyone check your tam modules.

Everything was indicating other than ram, but A questionably ram module was the cause of all the lockups.

I chnaged the ram modules over one by one and tested each component on another rig, it was defntly ram.

Hope that may be of some further help.
