hey, i've got a Philips PBDV1640P DVD Re-Writer about 2-3 months ago, and suddenly its stopped reading blank disc. I put in a blank DVD-R and i go to burn video files in nero, the drive says that there isn't a CD inserted. I've updated the firmware to 3.6, which is the latest and still it isn't working. Anyone got any other ideas? I read somewhere that you can flash the firmware with Benq, but i'm not too sure what that means.

Many Thanks

HI:It's usually not good news when this happens. Most
times it's a fault with the drive (the laser unit). Try
booting to a bootable disc (like the Windows CD). Make
sure "boot from CD-ROM" is enabled in the BIOS. If it
won't do this, then it really has to be the drive at
fault.
Finally :What type of Blank DVD -R are you using? If you are using a cheap stuff smetimes your DVD-R will not read it
just try another Brand for Testing
Good luck...

You may be lucky and it may just be muck on the lens of the laser - buy or borrow a cd cleaner and try that -

The good news is that the drive is still under warranty. I'd contact the manufacturer.
