Have DVD player connected to TV; it's o.k. Purchased RF Modulator to also hook up VHS recorder to TV. Can get the VHS to play but NOT record. Need to record on the VHS.

Need to record what on the VHS? From the DVD player? If the DVD player has a composite OUT (yellow-video, red-right audio, white-left audio) then just connect it to the composite IN on the VHS, then select to record from the LINE in, instead of from a channel.

If you have video/audio output on the tv, connect that output to the input on your vcr. Otherwise connect the modulator to the vcr input to record, line out to tv, to view on tv switch it to the corresponding line in connection.

Well, the TV is not really an audio/video "source", it is really a display device. What you are seeing on the TV is coming from some other device, either a cable box, a satellite receiver, the internal tuner in the TV, etc. If you want to record from the TVs internal tuner and there is not an audio/video output on the TV which allows you to access the tuner output, then you can't record from it. You need to get an external tuner to connect to the VHS and use it to select the channel you want to record from the TV. I currently do that with an external Over-The-Air digital TV tuner connected to a VHS.
