DVD Player to Video In

I have a Gainward graphics with a VIVO (video in/video out) interface.
I want to watch and record DVDs on my PC but not using an internal drive, but instead by using an external Sony DVD player.
I have connected the audio side OK, but the problem lies with the video. Once I've connected the DVD player to video in, what do I need to do to watch and record the input? What software is best?

I don't understand why you want to use an external player. It would be much simpler with an internal player and you should get better results.

Well my internal drive is a bit cheap and nasty so its just a temporary solution really until I get a replacement.

First you have to install the video driver of the card. That should be included on the driver cd. If it's a nvidia card you can also download the nvidia WDM video driver. You also need a recording software like PowerVCR II or III. For some of these programs you may also need a WDM audio driver beside the WDM video driver!
