On my old PC the DVD drive went dead so I replaced the drive with an older drive from an older PC. It ran well for about a week but one morning it turns out my processor was friend and my pc wouldn't turn on. Could this have been caused by the DVD drive? I have never heard of hardware drive burning a CPU. Since then I replaced the Mobo, CPU, Power Supply, and VGA card. I want to use the old DVD drive but if it really did cause my cpu to burn, I don't want to use it. any suggestions?

It would be 'possible' (if unlikely) for a defective drive to damage the motherboard, but not the CPU.

It could have damaged the mobo which resulted in a damaged CPU. But what is wierd, it works just fine in my much older PC. Maybe the drive didn't hurt the CPU, it might have been a different problem. I ordered a brand new DVD drive from newegg so I don't have to worry about it.
