DVD in DVD drive is not detected

Hi,
I have a optiarc DVD-RW drive on my Lenovo Laptop. It is frequently not detecting any DVD I insert into it. It can detect CDs sometimes and DVDs once in a blue moon.
The driver status is OK. I tried to find update but it seems to be open source driver with no updates.

It sounds like a dirty or weak laser, and not a driver problem. You could try a cleaning disc, but you might need a new drive.

Also, the drive may only accept some DVD media. There is DVDR+ & +&- disks. Does your drive use both?
If you are refering to disks written on another computer that can sometimes be an issue too. If the drive sits there with the light on for long periods then aegis 1 is probably correct about a dirty lense or weak laser. Most combination (CD/DVD) drives use two different lasers. One for CD & one for DVD. So CDs may work well and DVD not.

I often use RW discs. I think the drive is worn out and I need a replacement.
