Specs: Windows 7, 2 GHz / 2037 MB
Ok my problem is this ever since i reinstalled win xp for the first time my drive which was super fast before that(i think it coppied about 2gb's in 1 minute to my pc) turned into a sloth.well it reads CD's just fine although there is a little speed drop. But its DVD's that took the hit.DVDs take a lot of time to load and reading is poor both data dvds and video dvds. And sometimes it doesnt read at all.But its gotten really really bad.If i play a DVD after about 15 mins it begins to stutter really bad(the dvd has no scratches on it).And when i take out the dvd its really hot.It isn't drive faliure cuz this one time i reinstalled the drive and Video DVDs read superb(like old times)but it wouldn't load data dvds. Now im sure its not heating problems because i checked in speed fan.Temp 1 was around 57 degrees c,Temp 2 around 50 degrees c and the 2 cores were around 450 degrees c.I bought the pc around 2 years ago.It has no viruses i have avast 6 always updated.

My Specs Are

CPU:Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 @ 2.00GHz
RAM:2 GB DDR2 DUAL CHANNEL @ 800MHz
MOTHERBOARD:MSI - 7525(Really Bad I Know)
GRAPHICS:ON-BOARD
DVD DRIVE:ATAPI DVD A DH16A6L ATA Device
COMPUTER MODEL:Compaq Presario SG3440IL

Any Help Would Be Appreciated

Thanks In Advance!!!!!!!

Make sure hdd and optical drive are using ultra dma(u can check in device manager). Try the optical drive to another system to see if it's working well.

edit: use different soft to check temp(hwmonitor) or better check in bios. System specs is very important.

What happened when u load bootable disc? Does the drive read faster? Do u have linux live disc? Did u remember to install all drivers(chipset, audio etc)? Try to swap both data and power cable(optical drive).

i have a lot of Linux distro iso files on Cd's i got with magazines and Linux Cd's and a windows XP Pro CD.the problem is with DVD s they read bad especially video DVD and did i say when i burn over 2gb's of data to a DVD Nero says unrecoverable read error about a thousand times.and i cant open the PC cuz my parents won't allow it(becoz one time i opened the TV very long ago and things didn't turnout well).will a firmware update help me.
and yes all the drivers are installed i manually the installed latest drivers after win7 installed them and i let Intel check for driver updates so drivers are OK.And i tried a lense cleaner CD with 2 brushes and dry and wet and it didn't do a thing. If i cant fix it can you give me a good model DVD RW Drive to buy.

Try to boot with DVD disc and use another burning software like imageburn(un-install nero).
