DVD drive won't recognize DVDs

My dvd drive recognizes and plays cds of all types, but not dvds. It's an I/O Magic 8x Dual Format DVD writer. I installed the latest firmware, ASPI drivers, and IDE Controller drivers, but no luck. I can put in a blank DVD and Roxio recognizes it and brings up the copy dialog, but if I put in any regular DVD movie Windows Explorer tells me to insert a disk when I try to read it, and PowerDVD and WinDVD both tell me there is no disk in the drive. The drive manufacturer couldn't think of anything else to try so they told me to return it - I did, and the second unit produces the same result. I have an Asus A7V8X-X MB, AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 512 RAM. What gives? There's gotta be something else I need to update since I'm assuming it's not the drive itself.

It could be some burning softwares (I think Roxio) that cause such problems. (From my experiences) If you can, try to uninstall all the burning programs in your comp to see if it works.
