Comment: In windows explorer, you can see the drive available as any other drive. In "Device Manager", the drive appears properly with a status saying that the dive is working properly. But whatever Cdr, Cdrw, or Dvd I am putting in the dvd drive ...wont be runned by the Dvd drive: I see the green light of the DVD drive flashing as soon as a cd or dvd is inserted in the drive... but when you double click of the cd/dvd drive in windows explorer, you get message "please insert a disc". I tried accessing it via DOS, and it says "the device is not ready"! Those same cds and dvds are runned correctly on other computer's, so the problem is not with the cds/dvds. Important: this DVD drive (that wont read anymore cds+dvds) was reading all my cds+dvds very well ... then I ripped couple of home made dvds with pspvideo9 and out of nowhere, the drive started not to read all cds/dvds anymore. Windows XP Pro Mats---a Ujda745 dvd/cdrw

Reply: (edit)The drive seems normal but it does not work at all:you get the Insert.. message.Cdrom or Dvdrom drives don't last for long under normal and constant daily use. They don't make it over a year or so if you get heavy use from it.Get a new one:they are cheap and the new unit will support all the formats. You can also get a DVD burner(+/- etc,.that supports the current formats for burning)that will double as your dvd reader.Good luck.
