DVD drive wont play DVDs

I recently reinstalled win xp. now it wont play dvds using windows media player. why is that? do i need to load some software/plugin?
Windows Media Player doesn't come with a DVD decoder. You need to install some sort of 3rd party DVD software like WinDVD or PowerDVD, then MediaPlayer will work

I have installed power dvd now. I've also noticed another problem. the movies do play but appear 'jerky', appears to have a slower frame rate. it also happens when i scroll through a web page. its not as 'smooth' as it used to be. i have a nvidia gforce fx5200 video card. why should this happen?

You need to install both the motherboard chipset drivers & the video card drivers

i downloaded 77.72_win2kxp from nvidia website. images are not jerky anymore. but the color and appearance is not normal (only when playing dvds). It appears grainy. where to get the other driver that u mentioned?
