DVD Drive not visible

The DVD drive is not visible in Windows Explorer, when I insert a disk I can here it attempting to play but nothing happens, is there a way of bringing it back??

was it there previously? have you done anything to the pc like added another drive? Are the cables on it properly? If you have been inside PC since it lasted worked are you sure jumper settings are correct? is the drive position enabled in BIOS (eg. primary master, primary slave, secondary master, secondary slave).

thanks Cliff, it is a laptop and we haven't been inside. It was showing previously and just disappeared, it happened before and reappeared but this time it hasnt
