I have a DV4 hp pavillion. after using for a couple of months, DVD drive refuse to read discs. after it has tried to read a disc, when i take out the disc, i realise the lens does not return to original position. there is a gap between the lens and the motor. whiles ooriginal there is no gap there. i hope someone understands what i mean. many thanks in anticipation of a response

This was obviously not a new machine if it has vista. You may have only used it for a few months but how old is it really and what do you know about it's history?
Bottom line... It appears there is a mechanical fault with the optic drive. replace it.
