Hi Guys...I usually lend out my Dvd writer to my buddies, later on i would fix it back on my system after their job is done. But unusually with my new pc, when i got back the dvd writer from my pal n fixed it back in my pc, the dvd drive ICON doesn't appear in the "My computer" panel though it gets detected at startup...What should i do, please help!

Are you sure you "fixed it back in" correctly? I'd check that first. Make sure that the DVD write is jumpered correctly and that the IDE and power cables are correctly attached.

IMO, it's not very smart to constantly remove & reinstall your DVD burner, just so your buddies can use it.
Did you check the master/slave jumper settings? Maybe your "buddy" had to change it for his system?

Does the light go on when a disk is inserted? If so the drive is getting power and the motor is working. If this is the case try inserting a music CD and headphones plugged to the jack on the drive. If that works post back for help on possible issues with ASPI Layer drivers.
