How do I eject a dvd drive? It spins like it is trying to read a disk when I try to eject it. Even the eject button on the drive doesn t work. I was trying some kind of a failed update with an hp update utility for SP3 on Windows XP with AMD processors just before this happened. I got an error message saying that my computer did meet requirements for the update. I have 2 dvd drives on this computer, a TDK, very ancient but works just fine, and the newer ASUS drive, that was working just fine up to now. Thanks for your help.

If you look on the front of the DVD drive you will see a small pin-hole. Push a straightened paper-clip through it the the draw should open.

If the drawer will not open during bootup, before the operating system loads then you know the problem is mechanical.
Most drives have a small manual release hole in the front somewhere. Straighten a paperclip and push gently into the hole to release the drawer. You should feel/hear a small click.
