DVD Drive Broken?

May 7, 2010 at 18:51:02
Specs: Windows Vista, AMD Athlon processor 2650e 1.60 GHz /2 GB
My DVD drive tries to close when i push the button but sounds like it is hitting something a quarter to half way closing and it tries two times before just staying open. I then pushed it closed with a little effort and now the tray tries to open twice but never gets farther than a eighth of a inch if that, then just closes back. It started with not reading the DVD movie I put in the drive and then the closing problem started... Any ideas before I have to foot the bill for another expensive drive

Unless you can see what is hitting or take it apart (almost impossible) then you will have to buy a new drive. They don't cost that much these days but it is always sad to replace what seems like it should still be working.

It isn't that old. Only about a year this month. I have a drive that I used in my kids computer for the last 6 yrs and it still works great even though it is used every single day. This bites!
Thanks for the reply anyway.
