Hi all,

This problem only happened a few days ago, I put in a cd/dvd, it doesn't spin, so I open my computer click on my dvd drive and it says "this disk is not formatted". I've tried unistalling the drivers for the drive and the ide controllers and i can't boot from it either, so do you think it's dead? P.S. it's a Pioneer DVD-113 and my os is xp sp3 (forgot to change that!)

I also have a Dell Dimension 8100 with normal xp sp3,1.5ghz P4,120GB hd,1GB,dvd-rom and cd-rw(also floppy drive and a ATI Radeon 9200 agp graphics card)

Does the tray operate? Sometimes an optical drive will take some time to activate. However, it should be consistent. Did you make any changes to your hardware or software recently? How long has the drive been in service?

If it's still under Warranty, contact Dell for a replacement drive.
