Comment: Hello everyone, this is my problem, my dvd players (LG and a teac) played all of my dvds(home made and original copies). Up until yesterday though neither of them will play my home made dvds. They only play the original copies for some reason.I've checked my dvds on other computers and they play just fine.So I guess the problem is with my computer.I only use windows media player, and when it tries to playback my home made dvd I get this error code: COODIICD: UNKNOWN ERROR ERROR: ID = OXOOD11CD,CONDITION ; ID = O X OOOOOOOO. can anyone help?? thanks in advance

Reply: (edit)thanks for replying, i didn't intall any hardware, but the only software that was intalled was IE7 which was downloaded automatically. To be honest i was thinking of using the restore point utility and going back a few days, but i dont trust it too much.

Reply: (edit)I would try a system restore from the start menu> help & support. Why don't you trust system restore? The only downside to system restore is disk space usage. That can be addressed by removing restore points periodically or simply allocating less space. If the system restore cures the problem with the drives you then need to determine what changes were made.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for replying again, The reason i dont trust system restore is because a few of my friends have tried it and it wasn't very successful, for them at least. They have resorted to outside products like norton's go back, or rollback rx pro.But anyway I'll restore it now and I'll let you know in a few minutes.

Reply: (edit)Are both optical drives connected to the same cable? Are the original DVDs and the burned disks the same type of files? You may have lost a codec. I suggest you try something. Use the same type of DVD media as you are having problems with and burn a backup data disk of some of your important files. Then try reading the disk to see if you can. This will determine if it is hardware or software. BTW, the comment of re-installing is out of the question indicates you don't have backups. I think you know where I am going with that. You should be prepared to restore your system at any time as it is likely to quit on you at any time.

Reply: (edit)I do have back ups of all my data on a separate hard drive. It's just I hate the entire procedure of reinstalling windows. It's just too time consuming no matter how fast your computer is.Any way to answer your questions the drives have separate cables, and the dvds are the same kind of files (vob).I've tried your suggestion before posting and they can read anything and everything except for my home dvds(movies(vob) to be exact).Which have been made by using nero or ulead. thanks again for your reply

Reply: (edit)Just to clarify, you can NOW burn a DATA DVDR and Windows can read it? If so, I would repair WMP from within add/ remove programs. Your codecs may be corrupted too.

Reply: (edit)Which version of WMP? 9, 10 or 11? Try going to Start > Run, type in mplayer2 & click OK. That will bring up WMP 6.4. Now try playing one of your burned DVDs with WMP 6.4. If it works, your problem is with the other version of WMP that you have...possibly corrupt codecs as mentioned by OtheHill. "COODIICD: UNKNOWN ERROR" Any chance that the "II" in COODIICD could be 11? http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...

Reply: (edit)thanks for your response jam I have or had wmp 9 now I just installed wmp 10 to see if this solves the problem and.....it didn't and this is the message it's throwing in my face. "Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to Windows Media Player". Along with the error code from my original post.

Reply: (edit)And WHEN do you get that error? Wheen trying to install the new version, when opening the app, or when trying to play the burned disc? If the latter, do you get that same error when trying to play a pressed disk? Being very specific is very helpful. As I understand all of the above, you have two DVD drives in a computer and neither of them will play burned DVD movies but it sounds as if you can read the contents of the discs (such as through Windows Explorer). If that is correct then I would suspect, as the others, that it is a software issue. However, if you can play pressed DVDs but not burned DVDs then I don't think it would be a codec issue - assuming the burned DVDs are using the proper mpeg codec. It could be some sort of DRM protection that was silently installed when inserting a protected disc. But, I have not heard of anything like that recently. But, it could be hardware. Burned discs are not as "easily" readable as a pressed disc. So, a drive with a laser that is going bad can start having problems reading burned discs but still read pressed discs fine. I would think this would be unlikely to happen with two drives int he same PC at the same time, but it is possible. You could try switching DVD drives from two different computers to definitely rule out the drives as being the source of the problem. Michael J

Reply: (edit)Thanks MichaelJ for your input, the error just appeared when I inserted one of my dvd movies. At first I thought the dvd was corrupted so I tried another one of mine and again nothing. So then I started inserting the "store bought" ones and they played just fine. After that I took some of my home made dvds to some friends computers and they played back just fine. The strange thing to me is that my dvd drives have no problem doing any kind of other task, reading, burning and what not. I tried Jam's advice by running mplayer2(wmpv6.4),and there is some good news. My dvds played back, but only if I chose manually each vob file individually. I assume then this must be some kind of software problem. But I have installed WMP 10 with codecs since yesterday but to no avail. I've also tried Jam's site suggestion in response number 10(thanks). I'm looking into it, but according to some of those sites, the people who have encountered this problem haven't really resolved it. Anyway, thanks everyone for your input, I actually learned a few things.

Reply: (edit)Hi everyone. I just want to bring some closure to this topic. I installed a new software dvd player product(power dvd) and everything is just fine. WMP 10 still won't play my dvds, but at least with power dvd everything is just fine. Thanks to everyone for their help.
