Im new to burning DVD's my computer has one so I thought I give it a try I bought a stack of Philips DVD+R Im trying to burn a movie out of Windows Media Player and it isnt working. Do I need burning software? if not what the is the problem.

Yes you can probably download sommething somewhere,goto a cyber cafe and get used to the feel on NERO

You will need to make the file smaller too. Possibly DVD shrink. Other tools may be needed. Go to the website linked below for excellent help on this topic.

It depends on what you want to play the dvd on. If you want to play the movie on a home DVD player, you will need to convert the files.
Most movies downloaded from the internet are avi to play on a home dvd player convert to vob. Nero vision express or winavi can do this. Or search for free avi to dvd converters.
Once converted, then you can burn as a video (dvd)
Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

To expand a little on what clive_pearce said. There are some new standalone DVD players that will play AVI files (DIVX or XVID).
If you just want to watch the movies on your computer, there is no need to convert. But you do a need a burner program, XP doesn't burn to DVD discs.
