DVD burner

CPU/Ram: pentium 3 450mhz 384 ram

hi all,
i just purchased a LG DVD burner <multi recorder> 16/16/4.im trying to burn .avi file originally 700mb dvd converts it to 3926mb,its gonna take about 16 hours to burn is that normal or am i doing something wrong.im using the software that came with it,power producer gold.as im writing this its been 35 minutes and its at 5% thats just the creating and organizing part it hasnt even started burning yet.any help would be appreciated.

That sounds reasonable. Power Producer has to convert the AVI format to the MPEG format before recording in the DVD format. That's very time consuming. Next time record in the MPEG format, I think it should save a lot of time producing the DVD.

thanx.i guess ill be burning as i sleep,didnt think it would take that long to convert.I guess being on an old computer doesnt help either.

ham30 is correct. I tried the AVI to MPEG route once and it takes forever. You should also consider more ram for video work.

Not only RAM...a Pentium 3 450 is way underpowered for video conversion work...

hi,
yea i know this computer is underpowered.im buying components to build a new computer,starting with things like dvd burner, cd writer,usb card,the cheaper stuff first then i will get the more expensive parts.i put the dvd burner in cause i had some avi files i wanted to make into dvds,just didnt know it would take this long to convert 1.i will burn them to reg cd then when i get more powerful computer i will burn to dvd then.
