I am having a problem with the dvd burner that came with this computer. It will read dvd no problem, but when I put in a regular cd you can hear the drive clicking reving, and it eventually reads but will take close to an hour to copy a file off a cd. I tryed a cleaning kit and that didn't work. Is the laser bad. The computer is still under warrenty so if it is I can send the drive in to IBM.

Are you sure it's still under warranty with IBM?
Did you know that China's Lenovo Group acquired the entire PC unit of IBM Corporation in May 2005?

There are at least two lasers in DVD/CD drives - it is possible the one that reads CD's, or it's circuits, is/are defective.
DVD/CD drives are warrantied for only one year, even if the overall computer system is warrantied for longer than that. It might not be worth it to make a warranty claim on it - a new DVD/CD drive costs as little as $40 or so. You must get an RMA (Return of Merchandise Authorization) from the IBM web site first. If IBM has an over the counter replacement warranty for things such as DVD/CD drives, and there is a local IBM authorized place you can get the replacement drive and it would be no problem to go there, then it is worth doing. If you have to ship it somewhere, you pay the shipping one way, so you only gain the difference between the cost of the drive and the shipping, and you will have to wait for the drive to arrive.
