DVD burner power calibration error

Gateway / M-6750

Specs: XP Pro SP3, 2gb
My Plextor PX-716A won't burn or copy DVD's of any kind for the last week or so. It will burn or copy a CD though. I get the "power calibration error". I had this some time ago but I found it was that the drive was in PIO mode. It is in Ultra DMA mode 4 and has been for a long time. Everything in the BIOS seems fine. So what the problem is I don't know.

You could try the drive on another computer or on a fresh instalation of the OS.
I have 2 old burners, one does not record DVD's but can read them, it can record CD's but won't read any CD.
The other recorder, on day it decided that would only record TDK DVD's.
Try to update the firmware for the drive.

Once upon a time the floppy disk was king.

The laser used to both read and write DVD media is either failing or the lens is dirty.

Have you burned lots of DVD media? Are you using disks from the same sleeve as before?

I have been using the same dvd's from the 100 stack for a few months now. I has just been the last 3 days or so that the drive is not working. I downloaded the firmware although I remember updating that not to long ago (1 year). I could also try another dvd burner on my PC or try my Plextor on a friends PC. I cleaned the lenses.

It now seems to work for now. If it does it again I'll be trying it on a friends PC.

Thanks for your guys' help!
