I have a pioneer dvr-212d that is giving me problems. It reads everything fine, recognizes all media I use. The thing it won't do is actually burn anything. I've tried magicISO 5.4, nero6, and just windows explorer to try to burn stuff.

Windows will flat out not work, and will say
"Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this folder. What do you want Windows to do?"
Has retry, skip and cancel as options. It doesn't state what the problem was.

Nero and magicISO both SEEM to work. They will go through the motions of burning, but the disc comes out blank, and still re-useable.

Any ideas?

current driver is 5.1.2535.0

Are both CDS and DVDs failing?

XP does not burn DVDs, only CDs.

So, RTFM still applies; this from magicISO's website:

"Test Writing": If check this option, MagicISO will simulate writing ISO file to CD for detecting error.

I thought this was some sort of buffer option or something, hence I clicked it. I still don't know why nero failed, but it doesn't matter as magicISO works. I didn't know that about windows not being able to burn to dvd's though, so it wasn't a complete waste! thanks!
