DVD burner not reading disc

Lite-on / Shw-160p6s

Specs: Windows XP
My burner recently started ejecting blank dvd disc and asking for dual layer disc. Well this is the same stack of discs I have used all along. I even went and bought a different stack or same discs and it still is telling me they are not dual layer. What could of happened? Appreciate some help. Thank you.

You aren't trying to cram more than 4.4GB of crap onto a standard DVD-R, are you?

And if you are using DVD-R DL disks, hopefully your burner is new enough to use them properly. Many burners made before 2006 do not support dual-layer recordables.

I am using the same burner which is several years old and same type discs I always used. And some of these are the older Dvds I have previously done. Maybe my burner is ready for retirement? Thanks for reply though.
