Hi All,

I have a LG GSA 4160B DVD burner for 3 months. It worked well before. But yesterday after 8 disks were burn it just ejected the new disk when I try to burn 9th, saying "The disk is not empty, please put a empty disk in" by the Nero6. I thought maybe something wrong with my nero. So I use DVD Shrink 3.2. The same thing happened. Only the difference message saying "The space of this disk is not enough, please put a new disk in". But I've tried 10 NEW disks already. They all get ejected. Can anybody help me to findout the problem and teach me how to fix it?

Thank you in advance.

This type of problem can be hard to diagnose. I suggest you see if the drive will burn CDR and if it will read DVD and/or CD media. This can help pinpoint the problem.

Hi OtherHill,

I've tried your suggestion. It works while I burn a CD-R using Nero6. Only it doesn't work is Burning DVD disc. What problem do you think I have? Thank you very much.

If I had to guess I would say that if the drive is identified correctly in device manager by make and model that the DVD laser is bad. You may get lucky and it may have a dirty lense, which maybe can be cleaned. You didn't indicate the age of this unit. The lenses don't usually get dirty until 100 or more burns. You know, you may have a bad batch of DVD media. Before I did anything else I would try different media. YOu will eventually use up any disks you buy. Are you stating the drive will read DVD media, both pre-recorded and burned but won't write DVDR/RW? FYI, this type of drive has two lasers in it. One each for CD & DVD. If it reads DVD then it is at least partially working. You could try entering the Nero setup and slow down the burn speed and see if that helps. It does seem, now that I think about your description of events, that the media here is the problem.

Thank you OtherHill, mine is just 3 months young. I've tried what you suggested and nore than 10 disc have been wasted. Now I've made up my mind to give up. I just saw a ad saying Liteon 12x DVD writer just priced $58 Canadian in a local store. I'll go get it. Thank you for all your help.
