dvd burner & cd burner master/slave

OS: win xp Pro
CPU/Ram: AMD 3500+ 1 GB ram

i have a cd burner installed on my computer. i got a new dvd burner,now that i connected my new dvd burner my cd burner does not work,however when i disconnect one of them another one works,i played around with the master/slave and jumpers in bios (lastest version),still no result!! any help? can i have 2 burners in my compuetr?

Try connecting them on diferent cables.

The BIOS cannot change the jumpers: the jumpers are on the back of the drive.

thank you so much ,that helped me alot,,The Dvd burner must be the master and must be attached to the end of ide cable and the cd burner must be the slave, so it should be attached to middle ide cable. { i used a pliers to set a jumper on dvd burner so i made it Master ,after that i used my second jumper on my cd burner; this time i put the jumper on **cable select**}
left pin =cable select middle pin=slave
right pin= master
