Hey People, it's been a while since I posted around here, nice to come again ^_^
I recently started having an issue, as I finaly started backing up my files today on DVD's.I have alot of Video Files (Avi's mainly, some Mpeg's), that I need to store on DVD's, so I used my stack of "Logik DVD+R 8x 4.7GB Single Sided" Blanks, in conjunction with my new "Emprex 1016IM DVD+/-RW", to back them up!
Yet, after burning them it has trouble reading the last files burnt on the DVD. For instance, the first folder with about 2GB's of videos plays fine to an extent (have nothing to compare to), except the second folder with the second half of video files (on the outer section of the DVD, also making about 2GB's), causes Explorer to crash ¬_¬ And also Winamp if I do have any time at all to drag it to it's list and attempt to play it.
Due to my Drive being silent, I put it in my DVD-ROM Drive (Good Reason for having both which is pointless to share), and when that attempts to play it, it suffers the same problem, BUT I can hear the DVD trying to pick up speed, then failing, and trying over and over to no avail.
To fix this, I have updated the Firmware of the DVD+/-RW Drive, and tryed reinstalling the drivers. Plus this has not only happened with 1 DVD, it's happened with 2 others out of the 5 I've burned, both using folders seperating approximately the outer half of the Disc's burning area.
As per usual, I create an essay of a post, but I like to know everyone understands with all the relevant information to make a better diagnosis ^_^ Thankyou!
*** And judging by what I read on the searches I made for my problem, my Drive Configuration isn't the best?
Primary Master - Western Digital 20GB [WD200EB] HDD
Primary Slave - Lite-On [LTD163D] DVD-ROM
Secondary Master - Emprex [1016IM] DVD+/-RW

"judging by what I read on the searches I made for my problem, my Drive Configuration isn't the best?"
Usually, I would say your configuration is right on. The only problem I can see would be if the files you're copying are on the 2nd HDD. You should configure your drives so that data transfers from channel to channel, not between 2 devices sharing the same channel. If this is the case, you may wanna try swapping the optical drives around.
Asus A7N8X-X
2500+ Sempron @ 2100mhz
10.5 x 200mhz @ 1.80v

Ti4200/8X 128mb
WDC 60GB

I would say that the burn speed was excessive for the media. Either that, or drive/ media compatibility.

I just got back from watching "Team America", it's hilarious! I loved the bit where he comes outta the bar and starts throwing up, lol!
Anyway, Thankyou for the replies ^_^ A while back I learned 80 lines instead of 40 lines on the IDE Cables means double the speed in comparison, which I soon begun using, I hope this may aid in my problem (assuming the cause is the same Channel).
I don't actually need my DVD-ROM drive anyway, so I'll take that out, so my DVD-RW will take it's place as Primary Slave. That way I can transfer the files from Channel 2 to Channel 1.... or whatever they're called.
I'm confident I can recall this happening to my old CD Burns from ages ago dealing with data, but I'm also confident the Burner was on the same channel again as the HDD with the files (Plus I used the unreliable multisession method, I hope they improved that).
As for Media Compatibility, I stuck to one brand with my CD Writer never considering it as a factor, so perhaps I should try varying this time *Looks angrily at the 50 DVD stack*
Thanks again ^_^

God Darnit, I missed what you said about the burn speed, which suprises me!
Not that in theory this has any relevance, because we're only talking about prewritten data to represent the video, so burning it at any rate would not make any difference on the speed of it's playback.
So what's up with 8x!? Don't think I'm getting at ya, but I swear 40x is 6Mbps, now 8x can only be 1.2Mbps, that can't be the apocalypse for a DVD Writer capable of 16x speed of writing DVD+/-R.
And if 8x does mean the DVD has a much greater chance of buggery, then I'll be darned if I know why the thing can do 16x ¬_¬
Just thought I would point that out... Unless you're referring to me burning at 8x when the CD is only designed for that at the maximum speed.
DON'T tell me I'm pushing the Blank Discs too hard! If this is false advertising I'll be damned!
