Hey people, I have a problem, which might happen with every DVD I have... I believe it happens with a fair few atleast. I just burned a DVD Video disc, everything works fine except the last 2/3 Music videos (presumably burned on the outer section of the disk? I thought this might be a possible factor).

Anyway, it freezes in some places, oddly enough though, not in the same Frames, and for varying lengths of time each time I replayed! This only applies to the last 20 minutes of video (Appoximately). Since this occured on our DVD player downstairs, I tested it on my DVD Drive to see how it performed... same problem though.

But I realised everytime the LED flashes on the DVD Drive (presumably reading it), the HDD flashes almost in synch with it?! But why would the DVD drive need to read the hard drive!? And if the Hard Drive is being used so much, would this explain the bizare Frame Freezes?

*And I just tested now, all the video up to about 20/30 minutes before the end is perfect, but once I start playing the last section, the DVD Drive (& the HDD) go completely insane with load time, infact it was frozen for 10 seconds before it realised I was accessing the end of the DVD!

Thanks for your time and assistance! ^_^

You 'might' be 'thrashing' in virtual memory (accessing the page file). Try a different DVD player.

Just tried it on another one, and it was worse... that could be due to it's a TV/DVD combo thing, so I wouldn't expect much from it. I'll try and knick my brothers one later...

As for thrashing the Virtual memory, I don't understand, would it need to swap alot?!
I remember specifying the values myself, because I had some Virtual memory shortages at one point, using PSP8 and stuff, settings are the following:

C Drive: No Page File
F Drive: 2MB - 768MB Allocated

C Drive is getting old, and has the OS and all programs on it, the F Drive is 4x as big, used for File Storage, I thought it would work better. I must have read a guide as well, so don't blame me for the settings if they are stupid :P
But anyway, I havn't had ANY Virtual Memory Warnings since it was changed ^_^

OH, and I tried running the .VOB's that I burned using PowerDVD, and they run PERFECTLY. I'm beginning to think it's down to a dodgey burn (infact I swear all my DVD burns are dodgey, my data DVD freezes the computer for 10 seconds before it works correctly!). Perhaps this relatively cheap Emprex "Can Do Everything" DVD Drive is the problem ¬_¬ Or the media...

After thinking about it, I have a vague memory of a DVD player using a hard drive as a buffer. If my memory serves me right, the player would read from the DVD drive, write it to the hard drive and then actually play it from the hard drive. Unfortunately, I don't remember anything else about this particular situation.

But I wonder if the drive 'is' having problems reading due to a dodgy burn or dirty laser. It might causes re-reads, which could really slow things down.
